About Us

Introduction…
Paradigm Shift was a counter-strike clan formed in late 1999. The founders of Paradigm Shift had roots deep within the Quake World Team Fortress community, to which we attribute our early success. Justice (originally Trinidad-P-) was a member of Gothic Terror, and leader of the TF>Junction as well as administrator of various QWTF tournaments. Kow (Lettuce-P-) hailed from Clan Sandman where he was co-leader.

Counter-Strike…
Back in the beta 2 days when the CS clan scene was just developing, -P- was arguably ranked #2 in North America (behind the infamous UGP). For the most part, the CS lineup included Trinidad, Reizoku, Innerchange, Icehawk, Delataur and Lettuce. As time went on, several other members were added to the roster, including mainstays Swoosh and Wind, both former Wolvesmoon players.

There was only one CS league then, STA, so although -P- played Counter-Strike for 7 months, at 2-4 matches per month they only accumulated 14 wins. Notably, early victories versus Mercs on the Loose (MoL) and Weekend Warriors made -P- known for its “patient” style of play. Sadly, -P- may have been the first true ‘camper-strike’ clan. We apologize. Paradigm Shift retired from competitive CS when all of the cheats and hacks started springing up in May of 2000.

Frontline Force…
Some time after the CS run, Paradigm Shift members stumbled upon a little-known Half-Life mod called Frontline Force (FLF). After half a year of idling, -P- became active again and, under the guise of ‘Clan Incognito,’ became a powerhouse in the emerging FLF clan scene. Urinsane, Mooreman and Xen both joined during Paradigm Shift’s FLF run, the latter two became instant starters, replacing several original members who went inactive for various reasons. Frontline Force was a great game with a growing community. Unfortunately, the development team released a horrible build which made the game unplayable. The clan waited months for the fix but eventually grew tired and decided to move on.

Urban Terror…
Five months after their last Frontline Force match, Paradigm Shift awoke from slumber once again, this time returning to their camping roots via the Q3 mod, Urban Terror (UrT). Fashioned after Counter-Strike, the game was attractive to many of the original clan members and it was during this time prodigal son Icehawk once again donned the -P-. Match highlights include a multitude of intense victories, hard losses, and the longest match in -P- history, a 4 hour camp-off vs. the Emergency Response Team in the CAL playoffs. As far as new membership went, Paradigm Shift did a lot of recruiting for UrT, but all six of the new members went inactive or retired soon after joining. Roster problems, stunted community growth and lack of interest eventually led to the clan’s migration to Return to Castle Wolfenstein (RTCW).

Return to Castle Wolfenstein…
Paradigm Shift quit Urban Terror in December ’01 and started Return to Castle Wolfenstein 20 days later. To bolster it’s stagnant lineup, -P- acquired some of Icehawk, Swoosh and Wind’s former QWTF clanmates from Wolvesmoon. Kordos, Dred, Casbah, D2D and Mitch infused new life into the now-elderly clan, and with their help, -P- got off to a strong start in RTCW. Unfortunately, real life soon interfered and only Dred lasted; the other four quickly bowed out of active status. Not long after this the clan recruited Gothic Terror member Sabotage, and free-agents Jargus and Shadowen. Without a doubt, RTCW had been the most productive game for Paradigm Shift. -P- battled courageously at Quakecon 2002, capturing 11th place and also discovering the newly-released online demo for Battlefield 1942…

Battlefield 1942…
BF1942 first infested itself within the clan during Quakecon 2002, but it was almost a year before the clan began playing it competitively. In order to meet the enormous 12v12 teamsize, many new players were recruited, including Heaven’s Gate and iroN from clan TFS, Ram and zend of Clan Erinyes, Tarrant of [M]egadeath, Total Package, hos, Yarddart, Vigor, Geiger, Cap, the former leader of Quantum Flux, and Smittles. Currently nose-deep in Battlefield 1942, Paradigm Shift has recently been crowned CAL-Invite Champions, placing them at #1 among North American clans. Sitting pretty with a sparkling 36-4 record, -P- begins the new 8v8 and 12v12 seasons with our eyes on the prize… capturing gold at the 2004 CPL Summer Event!

Battlefield Vietnam…
After the CPL cancellation for Battlefield 1942. Paradigm Shift shortly thereafter picked up the second installment of Battlefield. More to come soon...

And Finally…
Founded on the principles of teamwork, discipline, and dedication, Paradigm Shift has grown larger in it’s old age but retains much of the core membership that started the journey six years ago. The tight-knit sense of family makes us strong, and as clans come and go, we remain vigilant to our cause of excellence.
